Druids Glen is often referred to as "The Augusta of Europe". The flora and fauna of the Glen provide a colourful backdrop to a magnificent golf course. The forests and streams produce a haven for wildlife in what was once a home to the Druids. Design duo Pat Ruddy and Tom Craddock were given the brief to create the best inland course in Ireland. The Druids Glen name originates from a stone altar of pre-Christian worship, which was discovered during the construction of the golf course, in the thickly forested area overlooking the 12th Green. Today, a Druid stands proudly at the site as a reminder of the history of the Glen. Druids Glen was the Home of the Irish Open for 4 years from 1996 -'99. Druids Glen hosted the Seve Trophy in 2002. This event saw the leading Tour Professionals of Great Britain & Ireland play their counterparts from Continental Europe. In 2000/'01 Druids Glen was honoured to receive the award of European Golf Course of the Year, from the International Association of Golf Tour Operators.
