Tunisia
A fascinating country once at the very heart of Roman Africa, Tunisia is a modern country where hospitality is very important. This comparatively small North African country has a fascinating history. Tunisia has been rules by many dynasties until , in 1881, it became a French Protectorate before gaining independence in 1956. Today it is the most westernised and liberal of Arab nations and tempts with excellent accommodation in palatial hotels. It boasts wonderful beaches, there are Sahara safaris and golf courses. The shopping is fantastic, the climate lovely, the ruins and other sights spectacular. The north has velvety hillsides, olives and vines, whilst the south has genuine Lawrence-of-Arabia-style dunes and date palm oases.
